It was an earth-shattering victory. Muhammad Ali defeated George Foreman during the "Rumble in the Jungle."
This boxing match was the greatest sporting event of the 20th Century. But what was so special about the Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T.) winning in front of more than 1 billion viewers?
Ali wasn't expected to win.
He had been stripped of the heavyweight champion title and suspended from boxing for 3 ½ years. As he fought his way back, he had an embarrassing loss at the hands of Joe Frazier in the "Fight of the Century," where he gave up his undefeated status as well.
The 25-year-old George Foreman rose to fame after winning a gold medal in the 1968 Olympics and beat Joe Frazier by knocking him down six times in two rounds before the fight was ultimately stopped. This undefeated heavyweight champion's punching power and physical prowess were unmatched.
The 32-year-old Ali had to use strategy to win, and he did. His rope-a-dope tactic of allowing Foreman to tire himself out with punches allowed Ali to take control in the later rounds and win the fight.
Has your business or organization taken a beating? Can you ignore all those naysayers who don't expect you to win? Are you ready to do whatever it takes to regain your position at the pinnacle?
There's no better time than the present to put your growth strategy in place.
“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
His hands can't hit what his eyes can't see.
Now you see me, now you don't.
George thinks he will, but I know he won't."
- Muhammad Ali
